Jessica Simpson's Baby Name Revealed...

Maxwell Johnson

These days I have been posting on Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays (Stuff People Google day).  But I had to throw in an extra post today when I caught wind of this intriguing news.  According to the NY Post, Jessica Simpson and her fiance Eric Johnson plan to name their baby girl-to-be Maxwell Johnson.  Thoughts?  They will call her Maxi.  Thoughts?

I'm all for interesting names.  I'm all for gender bending names.  So, I don't dislike Maxwell for a girl.  I'm not, however, a fan of Maxi.  It reminds of me maxi pads....

  2. well if we want to change the world with less bullying & name calling we could start now before this child is born. Bullying starts in the media & is heard from Adults who then pass such tactics to there own children.. Its starts from home so lets stop name calling period. Its not our choice & actually there is not a darn thing wrong with either name.

  3. I'm all for uncommon and non-gender specific names but I would veto on Maxwell. And Maxi for short...first thing I thought too were Maxi Pands. Then Maxwell House. Sigh - poor girl.

  4. Ok,I can agree with "Anonymous" - and I don't mind the trend of nongendered names - but Maxi? ewww. How about little miss Simpson Johnson? That's a pretty s/he name.

  5. The first thing I thought of when I saw 'Maxwell' was the singer. Then I think of maxi dresses when I saw her nickname. I've always been known to go to the left when everyone else goes right. Anywhoo. I generally think of Maxwell as a male name and while I like boys names for girls (Randi) I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I think it will grow on me- but then again I'll never be around this girl so who cares what I think?

  6. I totally agree with Maxi Pads, but there is just about always some lame rhyme or play on words that can be done with nearly any name - I just think of how many people I know named Justin, and how much potential there is for Tomfoolery ( see what i did there?) and yet I hear of very few serial killers named Justin, so I assume that their childhood name mockery was at least bearable.
I also am of the mindset that if you don't want to encourage name-calling or bullying, you teach your kid not to be a complete goober. The kids I remember getting picked on had the weird parents (not their fault, I know) and were a target as a result of their weird upbringing and not just the name they were given. Enroll your kids in confidence building activities like sports and music, and give them a healthy diet so they aren't miserable or spazzing out all the time, and don't worry so much about what to name them.
